What is a TGR and how does it work?
A TGR or Tree Growth Regulator is used to slow down the top growth of plants whilst encouraging fine root growth, thicker, healthier, and darker foliage to help defend against disease.
How does this program work?
Your Council or power provider will nominate trees to be included in the tree growth management program. A notification will be placed in the letterboxes of the properties adjacent to the trees being treated 2 – 3 weeks prior to works being commenced If you have received a notification from us, we will be treating the trees in your area that are adjacent to powerlines.
When will my tree(s) be treated?
Your tree(s) will generally be treated 2 – 3 weeks after your notification letter was received.
How will my tree(s) be treated?
The treatment is applied through soil injection, 5 to 15 cm beneath the ground, around the base of the tree. The active ingredient, Paclobutrazol binds to soil particles and has limited mobility in all soil types. When applied by a licenced professional in accordance with the label it poses minimal exposure to people, pets, wildlife, and water sources.
How long does treatment last?
Re-application is recommended approximately every three years, though beneficial effects on some tree species may last extend to 5+ years.
What can I expect after treatment?

Does this product harm my tree?
No, when the paclobutrazol is applied in accordance with the label by a licenced professional there are many documented benefits. The first noticeable reaction to the treatment is an increase in chlorophyll production which will create darker green leaves. As time goes on the tree will increase in health and you will notice the reduction in growth causing a more compact and healthier tree.
Does this treatment pose a risk for people, pets, and wildlife?
Paclobutrazol is highly specific to the process found in plants. Research shows that there is minimal risk to people, pets and wildlife when applied according to the label by a licensed professional.
Will surrounding vegetation be affected?
The growth of surrounding grass, shrubs, flowers, and other vegetation may be slowed if the roots of these plants are growing in the area we treated near the base of the tree.
Will this product contaminate the groundwater?
The active ingredient Paclobutrazol has completed extensive testing to ensure its efficacy and safety. It has been shown to have limited mobility in all soil types, which means its potential to filter through the soil to reach ground water is minimal.
Can I use treated tree leaves for mulch?
Yes. The leaves collected from trees that have undergone treatment can be used for mulch, compost or collected for disposal.
Why did you apply this to some of my trees and not all of them?
Our product is proven to be effective on between 80% – 85% of the species in any certain geographic area. The trees we did not treat are species that the product will not effect.
Can I have TGR’s applied to other trees on my property?

Will the use of TGR’s replace trimming?
The use of Paclobutrazol will not replace trimming completely but has proven to efficiently reduce the frequency of pruning.
